Songs of Love and Death
Inspired by the dark eloquence of Jacques Brel, The Desperate Ones bring you a
performance of his and other songs that sit close to the heart and the crypt.
"…when I have enough in my belly to drown the world I'll break my glass
to make all silent and I'll sing loudly to approaching death bawdy songs, which
horrify the nuns" Le Denier Repas. Jacques Brel 1929 - 1978
"What
a performance! Graceful, rich, confident, mesmerising, thoughtful and moving,
unpredictable, mature, articulate, playful… So many feelings and thoughts
awaken. 'Jacques Sabbath' - as the Jacques Brel influenced band dubbed
themselves for the night - are real 'acrobats of love'. Storytellers playing an
arsenal of instruments and using vocal cords of angels. All this at
Joogleberry's cabaret bar.
People of the 21st century, go and see them, do not be afraid to go back in
time. I know what I am talking about. And I want to start learning French
again."

KAEREKLES (PLASTIC CHAIRS)
world
As a change from our regular flamenco we’re branching out tonight with a
fantastic London based greek folk group – This is going to be great !Plastikes
Karekles is a Greek folk group, the seed of which was sewn by a group of friends
whilst lying on a beach in Greece, consuming an assortment of fresh fruit, some
ouzo and absorbing the less than stressful life of the Mediterranean coast line.
Toying with the idea of how ideal it would be to play and sing ones way through
life with one's closest friends somewhere along the way it happened and that is
how we are here now. Since becoming a group Plastic Chairs have not looked back.
They regularly perform in different combinations and have taken part in numerous
festivals, including Henley, Chelsea, Venice and Welsh Proms. They have also
performed on London Greek Radio, live radio in Greece and the BBC. Other venues
have included the Komedia Theatre in Brighton, St. David's Hall and the
Millennium Centre in Cardiff and the Purcell Room in London. The music they play
encompasses traditions from all over Greece including the Greek Rebetiko (often
described as the Greek Blues), and island music.

CHERRY
+ SEEKER + KIT ASHTON acoustic
soul
Whilst only 18 years old, Cherry's already managed to have quite a career in the
music industry, which began by signing to 24/7 Management at the age of 14.
Cherry started out as one half of the brother/sister act Redcherry, extensively
touring throughout the UK, supporting chart acts, and co-writing with top UK
writer/producers. Redcherry received brilliant press coverage and recorded for
the label One Little Indian, which led to a Production deal with Riff Raff
Productions.
From
day one it was inevitable that Cherry was destined to pursue a solo career, and
at the ripe old age of 17, this decision was made. Cherry's spent the last year
crafting her talent as a singer songwriter, working and recording with Andy
Wright and Andy Hayman at Metropolis studios, as well as continuing to co-write
with Tim Ellis in her hometown Brighton. Cherry's developed a sound of her own
which combines classic pop melodies with real heartfelt lyrics.
2006
kicked off to an amazing start with Cherry signing a Publishing deal with
A&G Publishing, whilst attending Midem. Cherry's spent the last 6 months in
rehearsals with her own band, and are now out gigging material from her
forthcoming debut album.
Seeker
are a local band born and bred in Brighton. Lead singer Jen and guitarist Adam
head the band with drummer Cam and recent additions, Mark on bass and Hannah on
B.V's. They released their debut album 'Need to Move' last December and are now
gigging their way round the UK to promote it. A blend of funk/soul/rock with a
splash of pop, Seeker are sure to delight your ears in moments.
"Seeker play smooth jazz funk with a huge dash of soul. Matching both the
lively atmosphere and relaxed vibe of their hometown of Brighton this band
exudes class. Play them anywhere and anytime to capture hazy, good feelings of
sunny days." The Tilting Sky'. November 2005 edition.
Likened
to Jeff Buckley and a young David Bowie, amongst others,
Kit Ashton's music is a blend of alternative rock and pop. He
combines an incredible vocal expression with a broad harmonic palette, natural
command of his guitar, and some of the most hooky, catchy melodies you could
hope for.
Kit
currently lives in Brighton, England, and is signed to management/production
company Orange Room Music, with whom he has released a five track EP -
'Blindsided'. This has resulted in regular airplay and live performances on
various radio stations, including BBC Southern Counties Radio.

lack of buoyancy in your ocean? Is there a reason to write more songs about not

There is a reason. That reason is called Sparker.
Since
releasing the "Electro-Magnetic Blues" album, PAUL THE GIRL has played
her first gigs in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin SXSW festival, but most

February 2006. Meanwhile, back in London she has played gigs with Roy Harper,
